Last week we learnt a single chain stitch  - or detached chain or lazy daisy. This week we put more than one together to make a chain stitch – yes, it looks just like a metal chain with many links interlocked together.

 

So, into your hoop with a threaded knotted needle we go.

bring needle up at start point (A) and take it back down in at point B (one thread away from point A)

Pull through the thread until your loop is sitting nicely (not too tight or you’ll have a straight petal) P1080668Now, heres the difference, put your needle back down into the fabric inside your loop (one thread away from point C) P1080669and bring back up the same distance away along the line, again with the thread under the needle.

Continue just like this along your line. Now you can do large open stitches or smaller stitches which will look like a chunky straight line in a full design. Just keep them even for the best look.P1080671

I used 2 strands of perle in this design for a chunkier look. Remember if you are using a stranded cotton to strip the threads (take your strands out one at a time and then lay them back together before threading into your needle)
